Weight Loss and Sugar

Slimmimg down doesn't Jive with Sugar.
We understand that your diet plans can sometimes take a back seat to your sugar cravings. This is something that most folks can have trouble with. And yes, your diet can end up taking a hit. That inner need to feed the sugar bear that lies just under the surface can be a grizzly bear before you know it.
It's important to understand how sugar plays a role in your weight plan & what exactly sugar is?

Definition: A sweet crystalline or powdered substance, white when pure, consisting of sucrose obtained mainly from sugar cane and sugar beets and used in many foods, drinks, and medicines to improve their taste.
If you're like me and you're at the mercy of your sugar tooth, weight loss can be a long and uphill battle. But the good news is that you can take control and own your sugar cravings.
Reason of leave sugar behind:

1) Sugar is one of the main causes of weight gain.
  • Processed sugar is full of 'bad' calories and your body stores these 'bad' calories in your fat tissue.
  • That tasty treat that you know you shouldn't eat, is most likely full of amino acid and glucose (sugar).
  • One of the biggest issues with taking in so much sugar in your diet is that you are not eating the right foods and then that leads to putting on more weight.

2) Sugar contributes to Diabetes, Kidney and Heart problems.
Diabetes:
  • Too much sugar can also have a devastating affect on your pancreas and it's ability to execute correctly.
  • Candy and other bad foods that contain sugar will lead you down the wrong path and increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • When a person consumes food that causes an increase in blood sugar, your system creates a lot of insulin in-order to handle the increased levels and will attempt to remove it from your bloodstream. This can bring on diabetes.

Kidney Failure:
  • Your kidneys will slowly break down as your blood sugar level increases over a period of time.
  • Protein molecules are moved through your kidneys leading to larger amount of glucose and eventually destroying your kidneys altogether.
  • Long-term problems arise when people who suffer from diabetes do not change their eating habits.
  • Kidneys are susceptible to severe damage when having to deal with too much sugar over a long period of time.
  • This can result in kidney failure, which can have serious effects on your over all health.

Heart Problems:
  • For many decades now doctors have been telling us that the connection between heart disease and sugar is not only real but is deadly.
  • Simply stated; that you can draw a straight line between sugar and heart disease.
  • Studies have found that over 20% of people who use sugar (over and above recommended amounts) are 3 times more likely to suffer from heart disease.
  • When we consume food and beverages that contains added sugar such as soft drinks, bakery goodies, salty snacks and candy bars etc., we increase our risk of metabolic syndrome and heart disease.

3) How much sugar is safe to eat.
  • We contacted the American Heart Association and they explained to us that less than 5% of your daily calories should come in the form of sugar and no more.
  • A regular can of Pepsi Cola that contains close to 40 grams of sugar alone. Drink that can of Pepsi along with a bag of chips and a candy bar and you've almost exceeded you weekly sugar in-take in one day.

4) What can you do to help with your diet.
  • Drink Water! There is no better liquid to put into your body than water. You are made up of 78% H2O. So it would only stand to reason that you would need to replenish your body with a constant in-take of water.
  • Decrease the amount of sugar you add to your coffee and tea (here's a hint> try eliminating sugar from your caffeinated beverages altogether) and see if can you enjoy it that way. It may take a little time to get used to the taste without sugar, but you'd be surprised how easily you can train your taste buds.
  • When you're at the super market, buy whole-grain cereals instead of ones that are laced with sugar. If need be, you can always add your own sugar at home and this way you have control over the amount of sugar that is in your breakfast.
  • Another way of reducing your sugar in-take is to simply eat smaller portions.

How to Stop Hair Loss Effectively

Lifestyle and diet play an important role in hair growth. Though there are many oils, cosmetics, shampoos and medications available in the market to stop hair fall one must understand the root cause of the problem before using them. While a few cases can be treated using simple herbs and home remedies, a few might require medical attention. Once the right cause is identified you can choose from different remedies to control and reduce hair fall. The most common remedies available for chronic hair fall control are:

Herbal Home Remedies
  • Mix a part of lettuce juice to a part of spinach juice and consume it daily to prevent hair loss.
  • Massage your scalp with coconut milk and leave it for a few minutes. It not just moisturizes the follicles but also facilitates new hair growth.
  • Though baldness cannot be cured completely, it can be stopped or prevented. Cut an onion into half and rub it on the patches of baldness. Leave it to dry and rub honey on it after a couple of minutes.
  • Those with dry and rough hair can try a mixture of Alma oil and coconut oil.
  • Potatoes and rosemary provide nutrients to the hair. They promote hair growth and stop hair fall. Boil both of them and mash to get a smooth pulp. Strain it later with a strainer and rinse the hair with the juice.
  • Consumption of green tea reduces hair fall to great extent. The anti-oxidants present in it promote hair growth and controls hair fall.

Surgery- an Alternate Remedy
There are two types of surgeries available for hair loss - Hair transplant and Scalp reduction. Hair transplant is suggested for those with patchy baldness resulting from hereditary hair loss. Small sections of hair from the back of the scalp are removed and transplanted in the bald areas. Scalp reduction treatment, on the other hand involves replacement of bald skin with skin bearing hair follicles.

Supplements - for Nourishment
Though most of us believe that the diet we consume is self-contained with all the essential nutrients, the reality is different. The factors other than routine such as excessive stress, adulteration, pollution, physical and mental workouts demand more fuel than sufficient. The adverse effects of the stressful life affect health, skin and even the scalp. To avoid this one must ensure that his or her meals include extra calories and nutrients. Vitamin and protein supplements are the most commonly prescribed and used supplements. They are available in the form of pills and powders which can help in controlling hair fall and premature greying of the hair.
Though these techniques help in preventing baldness and hair loss, one must try to maintain an active lifestyle with healthy diet and adequate exercise and rest to keep all the problems at bay.

Build Muscle and Lose Fat in Just 20 Minutes a Week

I know, you've heard it before: "You can build muscle and lose fat, and it all it takes is 20 minutes a week!" I'm sure there's an infomercial on right now making the same claim, but the program I'm about to reveal really does deliver. Honest!
Here it is, but don't blink because it will go by pretty quick...
  1. 1. Back Squat
  2. 2. Chin-Up
  3. 3. Bent-Knee Deadlift
  4. 4. Parallel-Bar Dip
Loading parameters: 1 set, 20 reps, 2-0-1-0 tempo, 5-minute rest interval
Now on paper this little routine does not look too daunting, especially when you're doing only 1 set of each exercise with 5 minutes of rest in between, but this is where it gets interesting: each set is conducted with a 10RM load. In plain English, that means that you'll perform 20 reps with a load that you'll normally max out with at 10 reps!
How's that possible?

It's called rest-pause training. You take a set to failure, which in this case is 10 reps, and then rest for 5-10 seconds. Then squeeze out another rep or two and rest again. Keep going in this manner until you reach 20 reps. At that point you'll probably collapse! By the time you regain consciousness, 5 minutes should have elapsed and it's time for the next exercise.
You get it now?

The "20 reps with a 10RM load" method is not new by any means. Randall Strossen's classic book, Super Squats, was based on this age-old concept. What's new, however, is applying this method to other exercises besides the squat and arranging them in the specific manner presented in this program.

Now although this concept has been around for ages and it works, it does require some serious mental and physical fortitude. When both your body and mind say "STOP!," you've got to keep going. The human body prefers homeostasis - it likes to retain the status quo - you need to force it outside of its "comfort zone" in order to adapt. What's comforting, though, is that you'll have a full week to recover before your next workout!

Make sure to warm-up thoroughly beforehand, and increase the load by 5-10 pounds each workout: 5 pounds on the chin/dip belt and 10 pounds on the barbell.
Back in the '80s, the 20 Minute Workout television program was very popular - the women loved it because they thought they were getting a great "aerobic" workout, and the guys loved it because of the hot chicks! (Actually, I trained one of the producers of the show, and he says that it's still popular today in many prisons.)

This 20-minute "strength" workout will not be quite as popular. Trust me, you'll dread it. But if you train hard and eat right, you'll finally get to spend more time outside of the gym than inside it, and the best part is: you'll get results!

Achieve a More Youthful Appearance with Photofacials

By Stina Delance

Photofacial is an advanced skin rejuvenation technique that uses pulse light technology to reduce redness, and uneven skin tone. Due to its noninvasive approach and immediate results, it is becoming one of the most popular skin care procedures to reduce the signs of aging and correct minor skin imperfections.

The sun has an effect as well as aging on the skin over the years, including producing brown spots and ruptured blood vessels on the cheeks, nose, chin, hands and neck. The sun causes UV-protecting pigment to form on skin, which appears as unappealing brown splotches that are sometimes referred to as age spots. New blood vessels grow into the skin in response to skin injury by the sun. Inflammation is another term for these new blood vessels that form.

Blood is brought in to the area from these new vessels in order to bring healing compounds in, and to remove damaged cells. After the injury or inflammation goes away, these ruptured blood vessels remain along with brown spots, causing skin to appear further aged. Dyschromia is the name given to the dark brown pigment areas and red broken vessels that happen as the age of the skin is increased.

What causes the procedure to work?

A specific color of the flash light is emitted though a filter, where bright intense pulsed light is directed into. The photofacial light energy reaches the skin and is selectively absorbed by the damaged blood vessel or brown pigment of the age spot. The heat of IPL light consequently destroys the pigment and blood vessel.

Noninvasive processes such as these do not need much, if any, time to heal afterwards since they are not very intensive. Treatment can be performed in as little as 15 to 30 minutes and you can return to your regular daily activities. Redness and capillary exposure are sometimes visible for a short time as soon as the treatment is completed. This will fade and you will often enjoy the effects of your Photofacial following your first treatment. Photofacials are pretty light on skin, especially when compared to the possible scarring and peeling that can result when using lasers for treatment. There is some darkening that can occur in the treated areas, but skin is never broken during the procedure. Several hours is about the longest that any pinkness will normally remain. When a patient needs to go to work and there is still some redness, some makeup does a good job of making this unnoticeable.

Treatments should be done every 2 or 3 weeks, and somewhere between 3 and 7 total treatments typically bring the expected results for patients. Redness on the face caused by a condition called Rosacea will be reduced noticeably, making the face appear clearer and brighter.

After the procedure, be sure to follow the physician's exact instructions carefully. Avoid sun exposure before and after photofacial treatments. Exposure and tanning before treatment may occasionally lead to adverse effects such as blistering and dyspigmentation of the skin. Skin discoloration can also be a result if too much exposure to the sun happens after the procedure. In order to get the most out of your photofacial, be sure to utilize sunscreen after the process.

Dentists Administering Botox Treatments

By Erin O'breen

There are different reasons that people may wish to have Botox injections administered by a trained professional, sometimes it's for medical issues, and other times it's simply to enhance the appearance of the patient. Performing Botox injections should be done by a doctor in most cases, as the standards that are required to deliver these injections are very strictly enforced. Injections may also be delivered by other certified medical professionals like nurses, when a doctor is supervising.

Inquiries have been made as of late about botox injections that are prescribed and delivered by a dentist. There can be a number of factors that play a role in deciding this, including state laws and guidelines.

Let's take a look at this a bit further.

Which are the points in question?

All medical professionals who administer botox treatments must receive the specialized training, including dentists. For these treatments to be administered, it takes someone who knows precisely how the body works, who has had significant medical training, it's not a difficult procedure, but it takes professional skill. The certified practitioner must be able to treat and reduce the side effects that sometimes come with treatments.

In other words, dentists who are trained in prescribing and administering botox injections will likely be allowed to inject botox.

Dentists performing botox treatments

At this time, dentists are approved for botox injections in most states in America. There is a difference between standard injections for cosmetic reasons, and the way botox is administered. A dental plan in the state of California would permit a dentist to treat myofascial conditions with botox, the Dental Board of California certifies this. It is not however legal for a dentist to use botox to treat cosmetic issues. Administering it for this reason involves the Facial Cosmetic Surgery Permit to approve of the procedure. Within the state of Georgia, dentists need to take a 21 hour board approved course that details out facial anatomy and the exact techniques of using botox and the available market forms of it.

Dentists who have completed the necessary training involved for cosmetic injection are newly allowed because of approval from the Massachusetts Board of Dentistry in that state.

It is evident that rules are different between states, and it is always worthwhile checking whether it is okay as a dentist to inject botox in patients. From observable data as of late, it looks like it's moving toward dentists being approved for cosmetic administration of botox treatments.

The controversy

Some debate is happening presently for and against dentists being approved to cosmetically treat patients using botox injections. Discussions on a number of medical forums have constantly stated that they should be performed by trained plastic surgeons that have a better understanding of facial anatomy than dentists do. The board in the state has some stipulations that agree with this assessment, and say only dentistry related botox treatments should be approved for dentists.

However, the dentists would argue otherwise, stating that their knowledge of facial and maxillofacial anatomy is good if not better than many physicians, thus making them the right people to administer botox. It would appear that this argument will continue on for years to come.

Synopsis

As more people are in the market for this type of procedure, the medical field is looking for new ways to meet the needs of patients who would like botox injections. Dentists are now getting approved to provide botox treatments with state boards issuing new guidelines constantly.

Indoor Tanning

By Haywood Hunter

There is no doubt that a person with a beautiful tan looks healthy and full of life. It makes a difference, whether going on a new date, applying for a job, or attending an important function. Today, anyone can have this appearance by using indoor tanning beds.

These beds are set up in spas, beauty shops and other locations where they are available to the general public. First introduced in 1979, this procedure has advanced a long way and is under control of the Federal Food and Drug Administration. This agency monitors safety rules, eye protection, maximum exposure time, products used and other features.

To create the rays necessary for a tan, fluorescent lamps (UVC) are used. This produces the same effect of sun rays, but in a more concentrated manner. Acrylic shields are located throughout to give protection to the body.

Using this manner of achieving a tan is excellent for people who are working or have limited time and do not receive much sunlight. With a 20-minute maximum per session it is easy to stop at any time, and still receive a tan. Maintaining the tan usually requires one to two sessions every week.

Because any exposure to that many rays has some risk, employees and customers alike are being educated regarding "smart tanning". This teaches how to minimize risk and maximize benefits concerning UV exposure. Even with a good tan, it is still necessary to be protected, when in the outdoors, to prevent sunburn.

Indoor tanning is great for anyone who wishes to look and feel good. Special lotions are required when engaging in this kind of program and there are numerous kinds available. Having a body that is tanned presents a picture of someone who is active and conscious of the importance of looking good.

Get Relief from Mosquito Bite Swelling

Mosquitoes are common insects, especially so in areas with stagnant water where they can quickly proliferate. Female mosquitoes need to bite humans and animals because she needs blood so that she can produce eggs. Although many people would not experience any problems other than a sting, a lot also experience swelling on the bite site.

Mosquito Bite Swelling
- Although not experienced by all who are bitten by mosquitoes, there is also a very high occurrence of swelling.
- When a mosquito bites, it injects saliva into the site. This saliva prevents the blood from clotting so that the mosquito can freely feed.
 - Now, this saliva contains various proteins.
- These salivary proteins are detected by the body’s immune system. The probable response is reddening and swelling on the bite site. Still, it is important to understand that people react differently to mosquito bites. - Some might have extreme swelling while others will experience very slight swelling only.
- Some research works show that allergic reactions towards mosquito bites tend to lessen after several incidences of bites. Thus, some people would have less serious reactions after being bitten for over so many years. Still, it also does not hold true to everyone so that it might be possible that the person will have the same reaction even after being bitten countless times.

Home Remedy for Mosquito Bite Swelling
- Finding a remedy for swelling due to mosquito bites could be easy. In fact, there are a number of home remedies that could be used to solve the problem.
- Still, it must first be understood that the overall effectiveness of these home remedies will depend on a lot of factors. Such factors include:
  • * The patient’s own immune response
  • * The size of swelling
  • * The number of bite sites
  • * The time after the bite that the medication was applied or taken
- Some home remedies could be readily available, fresh from the garden or just off the kitchen or grocery store shelves. However, there are also times when the patient must find creams or lotions or infusions of these home remedies.

Mosquito Bite Swelling Relief
To get relief from the swelling, try the following remedies:
- Aloe vera. If using fresh stalk, snap off a portion and use the sap on the affected area. If in cream form, take a small portion and rub it on the area.
- Banana skin. Use freshly peeled banana. The inside of the skin is rubbed gently unto the affected area.
- Baking soda. Mix one teaspoon baking soda in one glass of water. Place the solution on a piece of cloth and rub over the bite for 15 to 20 minutes.

How To Stop Constant Sneezing ?

Constant sneezing or persistent sneezing is commonly related to different kinds of allergies. Allergies may be triggered by inhaling dusts and dust mites or any other type of allergens that may be free-floating in the air or from foods. Pre-existing conditions may be aggravated by these allergens for people who have known allergies. However, individuals who don’t have allergies to certain inhaled or food allergens may also experience this type of reaction (sneezing or constant sneezing), as all people have immune systems which defend the body from possible invasive foreign materials.
This event or bodily reaction may be due to a condition called rhinitis, which has a lot of sub-groups. Although common, conditions of rhinitis shouldn’t be major issues for concern. Treatment is indicated because of its continuous nature. The irritation caused by constant sneezing is usually initially addressed.

Causes of Constant Sneezing
- Persistent sneezing is commonly manifested by patients with allergic rhinitis. This condition may be present all-year long (perennial) or may occasionally happen during a specific season such as spring. Dairy products may also cause this type of reaction.
- Allergic rhinitis is characterized by constantly sneezing in the morning after waking up.
- Nasal congestion, watery eyes, and runny nose may also accompany the above mentioned symptoms.
- Constant sneezing of people with seasonal rhinitis is triggered most frequently by pollen from grass, trees, or flowers.
- As to perennial rhinitis, it is commonly caused by animal dander, hair, or fur, spores in fungi, and dust mites.
- Exposure to smog, smoke from cigarettes, perfumes, dry weather, stress, spicy foods, and having hormonal changes potentiate persistent sneezing.
- Chronic infections may also trigger constant sneezing, especially those involving upper respiratory tract. Infectious rhinitis may also cause this allergic reaction to happen.

How to stop Constant Sneezing
Knowing the triggering factor of constant sneezing is one of the keys in preventing and managing an existing allergic reaction. As mentioned above, exposure to allergens aggravates pre-existing conditions and may cause more severe allergic reactions.
- Regular clean-ups at home may be able to help lessen dust and dust mites and avoiding other irritants would be very helpful.
- The herb nettle is said to be a proven remedy for allergic rhinitis, relieving patients symptomatically. It can be boiled and be taken in the form of a tea drink. Nasal drops of a saline solution (1/2 teaspoon of salt into an 8-ounce glass of water) may also relieve runny nose and sneezing.

Carrot Allergy Treatment

Carrots are an ingredient of almost every salad dishes. Carrots are packed with many of the important nutrients required by the body. The beta-carotene, (a precursor of vitamin A) content present in carrot is remarkably high. Unfortunately, people having carrot allergy are unable to eat carrots. Though rare in United States, carrot allergy is known to affect many people in European countries.
It is possible that some people are allergic to carrots, but at the same time there are many people who may not be allergic to carrots but to the pollens and mold found on carrots.
Therefore people who are allergic to pollen should be careful while eating carrots. A person who is allergic to carrot may soon develop symptoms such as itching, burning and swelling of lip and oral cavity. The condition in medical terms is also called ‘oral allergy syndrome’.
People having allergy to pollen and molds may develop carrot allergy symptoms. This is because, the protein present in pollen is similar to protein present in carrot, especially mugwort and birch pollen. Also these people may be allergic to aniseed, fennel, coriander, celery and parsley. The organic structure of protein is similar in all these vegetables.
The immune system of the body reacts adversely when it recognizes the proteins present in carrots or the pollen on carrot as an allergen. This leads to production of immunoglobin E and histamine to tackle with the protein, giving rise to carrot allergy symptoms.

Symptoms Of Allergic Reaction To Carrots
The onset of allergy symptoms of carrot is generally sudden and immediate after eating carrot. Below are given some of the common symptoms of carrot allergy. The allergic reaction can be mild to severe. It depends on how the immune system reacts.
- Redness and itching: soon after eating carrot the person may experience itching and redness in his mouth. Though annoying and disturbing, both are milder variety of carrot allergy and they may subside after few minutes or hours.
- Swelling in the oral cavity: the lips, palate and tongue may become swollen, soon after the person eats or comes in contact with carrot. In rare cases, it can also affect the throat. Though rare, it can become life threatening when swelling in throat obstructs air passage and person finds himself suffocated.
- The release of histamine may lead to hives and welts on skin. They may burn and itch. Hive may soon appear after eating carrots.
- Respiratory symptoms may include cough, sore throat, breathlessness, asthma and wheezing.
- Running nose, burning and watering from the eyes. Red eyes occur primarily when the person is present in the area where carrots are cooked or processed.
- Gum swelling: often after eating carrots you may notice swelling of gums or gingivitis as it is called by dentists. Rarely, this may be the only symptom present in some people who are allergic to carrots.
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur in some patients.
- Anaphylaxis: it is the most dangerous and life threatening situation of an allergic reaction. If not treated on time, the rate of mortality is very high. Here, the person may suddenly collapse. His blood pressure may drop exorbitantly, pulse is not palpable and breathing becomes difficult, severe perspiration may occur. Such cases may require emergency medical treatment. This is rare form of carrot allergy.

Treatment For Carrot Allergy
Carrot allergy has to be treated in the same way as you treat other food allergies. The role of anti histamines is important in relieving the symptoms of carrot allergy. In mild to moderate form, mostly oral antihistamines can be useful. In severe variety, the doctor may prescribe injections and steroid.
However prevention is the best way to deal with when a person is known to have carrot allergy. Avoid carrots and dishes that have carrots as one of its ingredient. Even foods that have structural similarity with carrots require to be eaten with caution.
Home remedy such as sandalwood paste when applied on hives and welts are beneficial in alleviating itching. To prepare this paste, mix sandalwood powder with few drops of rose water. Once the paste is formed, apply it on the affected skin area.

Swollen Inner Cheek : Causes and Home Treatment

Swollen inner cheeks are common, and it can be due to several factors. It can be because a small lesion was invaded by a type of bacteria, causing an infection. This condition can be very uncomfortable, and it can affect one’s appetite as well.
- Inner cheeks can swell due to a blunt trauma, a type of physical trauma acquired by either an impact or physical attack. Damage to the tissues surrounding the area of injury causes inflammation. The patient then exhibits a swollen cheek with hematoma formation (discoloration of the injured area) due to the improper flow of blood in that area.
- As mentioned earlier, an infection may cause the inner cheek to swell; it is considered to be the primary cause of its inflammation and swelling. It may be caused by an overgrowth of the normal flora inside an injured area situated at the inner cheek. This makes the body react through inflammation and swelling. It signals that something has breached the patient’s immune system.
- Abscesses may form if not treated promptly. An infection of the gums may also cause the inner cheek to become inflamed and swollen.
- A malignancy can cause the inner cheek to swell.
Lymph nodes are affected, and based on its anatomical position (Preauricular, Tonsilar, and Submandibular lymph nodes), it can cause swelling at the cheek area. Oral cancers are associated with alcohol and tobacco use which, if used together, have synergistic carcinogenic effects.
- Ailments like mumps and lymphadenitis may also make the patient’s inner cheeks swell. These conditions shall be attended as soon as it is experienced by the patient to keep complications from happening.

Swollen Inner Cheek Treatment
Treatment for swollen inner check depends on the cause of the condition. It would be best to know the causative factor first to be able to identify which intervention would be greatly beneficial for the patient.
- If swelling is due to ulcers from accidental biting of the inner cheek, the patient can treat it with a gargle made of sodium bicarbonate and water at home. Regular oral care may contribute to the healing process as it washes away or halts the bacterial growth or may halt further bacterial growth occurring within the confines of the mouth.
- Infections are normally treated with antibiotics and allergies may be treated with antihistamines. Natural antibiotics, such as Echinacea, have been largely implicated in swollen inner cheek treatments.

Air In Lungs : Causes And Symptoms

The lungs are responsible for the regulation of both entry and exit of air. There are certain limits with regards to the volume of air within the lungs. If the residual volume varies from the normal, a disruption would exist in the overall respiration. Air trapped within or around the cavity disables the lungs from expanding. The pleura, which separates a person’s lungs from the chest wall, has two layers. The fluid contained in between allows the normal movement of the lungs. Introduction of air into this space compromises breathing.

Air in Lungs Symptoms
For the most part, the symptoms depend on the amount of air trapped outside the lungs.
- Dyspnea.
- Tachypnea. This is almost always accompanied by severe, sharp, and unilateral chest pain which worsens with chest movement.
- Sudden, stabbing chest pain. Pain felt may radiate to the arms, face, back, or upper abdomen. The pain is sudden and worsens with deep breathing.
- Anxiety and restlessness. Such symptoms are associated with respiratory distress. These are accompanied by other symptoms such as jugular vein distention and a weak, rapid pulse.
- Dry cough.
- Cyanosis. A bluish discoloration in the mucosa is usually present because of altered oxygenation.- Abnormal breath sounds. Upon examination, hyper resonance or tympany, crepitation, and diminished or absent breath sounds may be assessed. This may reflect the reduced airflow to a lung segment.
- Asymmetrical chest expansion. The pain and injury cause cessation of normal chest movement.
- Hamman’s sign. A cardinal sign of pneumothorax, this is characterized by a loud, crushing, crunching sound that synchronizes with each heartbeat.

Air in Lungs Causes
The nature of the disorder can either be due to air outside of the body, or air present within or around the lungs. The causes of the presence of air in lungs primarily depend on the type of pneumothorax.
- Smoking. This is a common precipitating factor in people manifesting signs of spontaneous pneumothorax. This type of pneumothorax is not due to a sustained injury.
- Changes in atmospheric pressure. This includes scuba diving, travelling, and even exposure to surprisingly loud sounds.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. In here pneumothorax occurs as a secondary condition. Some examples of COPD include asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. It is by far the most common reason of the presence of air in lungs.
- Trauma. An injury into the chest wall, such as a gunshot, accident, or stabbed wound, allows the incessant entry of air.

Tea Tree Oil for Ear Infection

Ear Infection Causes
  • - Due to liquid becoming trapped in the ear canal especially after shower. In some cases, dipping in water without earplugs or other means to prevent water from entering the ear can also cause the infection. This is because the liquid gets in touch with some of the sensitive parts of the ear, thus affecting hearing.
  • - Due to swimming in polluted waters. In this case, the problem is not just due to water simply entering the ear canal; microbial infection is a real threat here.
  • - Due to occupational hazards, especially when one is exposed to loud sounds frequently in the workplace.
Those who are more prone to the infection are those who work in machine shops, in construction sites, and those part of an airplane maintenance crew.
  • - Due to an improper way of cleaning the ears. People normally stick cotton swabs into their ear at the end of a small stick. This process can cause infection especially if breaks on the skin results. In any case, such method of cleaning the ears can only push the earwax deeper into the ear where it will harden and block one’s hearing.
